Dice and Candy

In case you don't know. I'm marrying a nerd. I don't mean that in a bad way either, we're both completely nerdy. We're nerdy in different ways, however,  for example, as I write this, Justin is playing some first person shooter game on his computer with six of his friends, and communicating battle tactics via Skype. I prefer to nerd out reading Harry Potter books and wishing that Hogwarts sent me a letter when I was 12, so I could be a wizard.

One thing that was important to both of us was finding a wedding favor that would represent us, as well as be different from things we've received at other weddings, such as photo mugs, and loose tea. Justin suggested that we get customized D20 dice. He explained to me that gamers find dodecahedrons the most useful out of all dice, and everyone could use them. I told him that I didn't mind, as long as they were sparkly and glittery.

We're going to customize them with JZ^2, since after I get married, my initials would be the same as his, and the whole square root thing totally goes with the underlying math theme in our wedding, hence getting married on 3.1415, pi day.

A long with handing out pretty dice, I really want one of these at our wedding:

After all, who doesn't love candy? So, not only would our guests get dice [which they may or may not use in their lives], they'd also get a bag of amazing candy. I'm thinking chocolate of all kinds, jelly beans, twizzlers, lollipops,  nerds, the works.

If you were having a candy bar at your wedding, party, or celebration, what candy would you think would be the most popular for a candy bar?

Wonderland Bridal Shower

My entire life, I've been OBSESSED with Alice in Wonderland. The Cheshire Cat has been my avatar on things like AIM, Twitter, and LiveJournal, for as long as I can remember. I'm pretty sure, in high school, I even had some Alice in Wonderland themed screen-names like ChesireKitty13 and MadKitty, therefore it wasn't a surprise to anyone I know that I want to incorporate Alice in Wonderland into my wedding somehow.

The best way that I can think to do this is by having a High Tea Party themed bridal shower. The way I foresee it is that it includes mismatched chairs, bright colors, zany mixtures of flowers, and finger food. In my minds eye, it sort of looks like this:

But most of all, it would definitely have to have a cake like this:

So, if you were planning an Alice in Wonderland themed bridal shower for an OBSESSIVE fan, what would you do? What kind of food would you serve? I'm thinking candy bar, cake pops, and little finger sandwiches. What sorts of zany decorations would you have? And what bright colored flowers would you suggest?

Seating Charts

Lately, the thing I have been thinking about the most when it comes to my wedding is the seating chart. Now, I know my wedding is over five hundred days away, and we have not even sent out "Save the Dates" or anything like that, nor have we even made a final guest list, but still, this is the number one thing on my mind.

First of all, we're not having numbers for tables. Since Justin and I are both extreme book nerds, we are naming our tables after books that we both like, therefore our tables will be called Harry Potter  or Lord of the Rings or Alice in Wonderland. We're having 150-200 people at our wedding, and doing simple division, that's 15-30 different books.

But once we have the titles for our tables decided, we need to figure out who's sitting at what table/ Do I stick all my teacher friends together, so they can talk about students and exchange lesson ideas? Do I sit friends from college at one table and friends from high school at another? Or do I try to arrange tables by common interests, for example, all of Justin's gamer friends can sit at one table, and all my friends, who like wine-tasting and shopping can sit at another?

A recent wedding that I went to had free-for-all seating. However, I'm not really sure I like that idea. What if all my Texas friends try to sit at one table and then there's not enough room for all of them, and they get stuck sitting with people, who they may not feel comfortable with?

What do you all think? Is it better to assign seats, or is it better to give your guests free reign of the tables? And, if I assigned seats, what would be the best way to arrange who sits at what table?

Guess, I'm glad I have a long time to figure this one out.
